The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union
Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union is one of the United States' oldest and most successful ethnic credit unions. PSFCU was founded in 1976 in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood in New York City.
Our Credit Union has grown expanded its scope to new states, establishing PSFCU branches in New Jersey, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, and Mortgage Credit Centers in Connecticut, Florida, and Indiana.
This timeline covers the most crucial phases of our development.
1976 - the founders of the Polish-Slavic Center, headed by Father Longin Tołczyk, form the Polish-Slavic Federal Credit Union (PSFCU). On December 27, the founding document is signed and the registration of the "Industrial and Commercial Federal Credit Union" with the National Credit Union Administration.
1979 - adoption of the official name "Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union" – first PSFCU logo designed by Andrzej Pitynski
1981 - Purchase of the first Union headquarters at 140 Greenpoint Avenue
1987 - opening of the first branch in New Jersey - in township Union
1992 - 2004 - The nineties of the twentieth century and the first years of the twenty-first century are a dynamic development of our Credit Union. More branches opened - on Kent Avenue in Greenpoint (1992), Boro Park (Brooklyn - 1996), in Clifton, NJ (1996), Ridgewood, NY (2001), Linden, NJ (2003), in Copiague, NY (2004) .
2005 - saw the Grand Opening of the current headquarters of the PSFCU at 100 McGuinness Boulevard in New York's district
2005 - Part of the Operations Center PSFCU has moved to a modern and functional building in Fairfield, NJ. This relocation has provided a comfortable working environment for our ever-growing team of employees.
2007 - for the convenience of our Members visiting American Częstochowa in Doylestown, PA PSFCU put into use its ATMs.
2008- 2009 - Grand opening of the PSFCU Branch in Garfield, NJ 2008, in the same year the Branches in Maspeth, NY (2008) and Trenton, NJ 2009 were also opened.
2009 - In September, PSFCU received a great honor, the headquarters in Greenpoint are visited by the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński with the First Lady, Maria Kaczyńska.
2010 - January 30, 2010 was forever in the history of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union: Our Credit Union opened the first two branches in Illinois in Norridge and Mt. Prospect, a suburb of Chicago. In this way, Illinois became the third - after New York and New Jersey - state where the PSFCU opened fully operational branches.
2011 - 2019 - PSFCU expansion continues. New branches open in Bridgeview, IL (2011), Schaumburg, IL (2015), Glendale Heights, IL (2018), Orland Park, IL (2019)
2012 - Grant Opening of the Staten Island branch
2015 - in September barely one month after inauguration, the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, visited our Credit Union and meet with PSFCU employees in the first branch at 140 Greenpoint Avenue.
2016 - Another branch in New Jersey opened to Union Members, this time the ribbon was ceremonially cut in Wallington, NJ.
2018 - The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union joins the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. An animated Polish flag with the inscription in English "The 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence" was displayed dozens of times on the NASDAQ building in Times Square in New York.
2019 - Hello Pennsylvania! On January 19, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, the 19th branch of the Polish-Slavic Federal Credit Union was officially opened.
2020 - The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union celebrated the 40th anniversary of signing the August agreements of August 31, 1980, which paved the way for the establishment of NSZZ "Solidarity". An occasional animation appeared on the NASDAQ building in Times Square in New York. This was not the first PSFCU initiative to commemorate a historic moment in Time Square.
2021 - The 21st branch of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union is officially opened in the building of the PSFCU Operations Center in Fairfield, NJ.
2021 - On September 21, the First Lady of the Republic of Poland, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, visited the headquarters of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union in Greenpoint. The First Lady said: “I would like to thank the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union for supporting so many charities. Especially for supporting hospices in Poland and sick children. I must say that these institutions are very grateful because I visit them and I know how important this help is for them "
2021 - The PSFCU Mortgage Loan Office has been operating in Connecticut since September 2021
2022 - From March 2022, PSFCU accepts applications for mortgage loans for 1-4 family homes in Indiana.
2022 - On October 15, 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Algonquin branch was held. The new PSFCU branch located in the western suburbs of Chicagoland is the 22nd branch of our Credit Union and the 7th in Illinois.
2023 - on September 21, 2023, President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda and the First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda visited the PSFCU branch at 140 Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn.
2023 - the 22nd branch of PSFCU, and seventh in the Mid-West Region, was oficially opened in Algonquin on October 21, 2023.
2023 - on December 15, 2023 - PSFCU’s Mortgage Center in New Britain has been transformed into a full-service branch offering members comprehensive banking services.
2024 - In May 2024, the representative office of PSFCU was oficially opened in Warsaw, Poland at Al. Szucha 3.
